Barangay Profile – Poblacion 2

The corporate existence of the new barangay, Barangay Poblacion 2, Villanueva, Misamis Oriental commenced on July 24, 2006 as fixed by the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Misamis Oriental through Ordinance No. 914-2006.

It has an overall land area of 66 hectares: 40 hectares are plain and in seas level and the 26 hectares are sloppy.

Barangay Poblacion 2 comprises of 8 Puroks.

The population of Barangay Poblacion 2 is 2,796 coming from the 908 families living in 780 households. Based on the record of Villanueva Election Registrar last 2015 National and Barangay Election, there are 1,615 registered voters.

Economy and Livelihood

Majority of the poplace engage in micro entrepreneurship and small scale business, some are construction and factory workers, while others are practicing and professionals and overseas contract workers contributing to the country’s economic growth.

General Health Condition 

Diabetes, high blood pressure and respiratory disease are high in term of morbidity. Other which are not so critical are arthritis, asthma and dengue. The mortality rate is 5 according to the BPO records as of 2013.

Culture and Values

Population of the Barangay is broken down as follow: 70% are natives Villanuevanons while the 30% are Cebuano, Tagalog, Boholano, Ilonggo and etc. The largest religious denomination of the Barangay are : Roman Catholics which is 80% of the population while the 20% are Iglesia ni Cristo, Seventh Day Adventist and other non catholic denominations.

Disaster History

Disasters occurred after the creation of the Barangay where as follows:

  1. Typhoon Ondoy that happened on November 2009 in which the following damage are reported :

a.a – 4 puroks are affected namely 1, 3A, 3B and 4B

      * 1 house totally damaged and 6 houses patially damaged

      * Rice field, corn farms and vegetable gardens are also damaged

      * Livestocks (Pigs and Poultry)

      * Fishpond (Tilapia)

B. Typhoon Pablo that happened on November 2012 in which the following damage are reported:     

            b.b – 2 houses are totally damaged

                        * 17 houses partially damaged

                        * 1 person injured

                        * 9 lots of rice paddies

                        * banana plant

            Other threats to the Barangay considering that some of the areas are slope that is prone and possible to landslide and flashfloods.

Community, Household and Individual preparations are :

  1. Close monitoring of PAG-ASA Storm signal warning
  2. Training of Rescue Teams
  3. Preparation of equipment
  4. Preparation of Evacuation Center/s
  5. Fast distribution of relief goods
